The Ukrainian weekend school, Nadija Kool (whose name is comprised of the Ukrainian word for “hope” and the Estonian word for “school”), meets every Saturday to give its students an opportunity to dress in traditional Ukrainian clothing, speak the Ukrainian language, and learn crafts centered around Ukrainian culture. A large part of the school’s curriculum and engagement is its choir, which helps keep the student’s language practice up through song. As the majority of the students are refugees, Nadija Kool serves as a vital place of cultural continuation in the next generation.
